Google Releases Top Ten Searches of 2011

It’s that time of the year when everyone releases their Top Lists of the Year, and here at Thoughts of a Jeanius we’ll keep you in the loop on the important lists. The largest search engine in the world has unveiled their Top Ten searches for 2011 and the list may surprise you.

The following lists are from Google, which feature the Top 10 searches in the United States:

10. Steve Jobs

Of course everyone knows Steve Jobs, who co-founded Apple in a garage. Apple has completely changed the technology world with laptops and more recently — the iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

Jobs died on October 5th at the age of 56. Searches for Jobs peaked during the week of October 2nd.

9. Osama bin Laden

On May 5th Americans slept a little bit better when it was announced that Osama bin Laden was killed in a firefight. President Obama called the killing “the most significant achievement to date” in the effort to defeat al Qaeda.

8. Adele

Adele being included in this list is really no surprise, she has dominated every chart all year, even winning ‘Song of the Year’ in a lot of lists. She has scored top honors from the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, Time Magazine, iTunes, and MTV. Not bad huh?

7. Casey Anthony

Everyone in the world knew this story and it all happened in our own backyard. With this trial, Anthony definitely reached for 15 minutes of fame and then some. I think everyone can agree that it’s great that this story is no more and we all can go back to our normal lives.

6. Apple iPhone 5

During the summer there were rumors everywhere about the possible release of the iPhone 5. Ultimately Apple released the iPhone 4S and branched out to the major three cell phone providers: AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. As long as Apple is in business, there will be forever rumors on the iPhone. On next year’s list you can most definitely believe iPhone 6 will make the cut.

5. Ryan Dunn

While this was a tragic accident and one that you never want to see, it was also not a very smart one. Back when this accident happened pictures were posted of Dunn drinking at a bar just hours before his accident.

Remember Roger Ebert posted a tweet at the worst time saying, “Friends don’t let jackasses drink and drive.” While I don’t necessarily agree to that extent, I definitely believe this was an accident that could have been avoided.

4. Pinterest

Before just looking into this, I had never heard of Pinterest. It seems like a pretty cool idea and it has to be for making the Top 5 on Google’s ‘Most Searched’ list right?

3. Hurricane Irene

Irene was the ninth named storm, first hurricane and first major hurricane of the 2011 Hurricane season. It was estimated the hurricane caused $10.1 billion in damage along the Caribbean and East coast of the US.

2. Google Plus

Google+ is another social networking site that has yet to really make it big. A lot of social media ‘experts’ believe one day it could be bigger than Twitter and Facebook, which I don’t believe at all. I have a Google+ account and haven’t logged in since the day I created it.

1. Rebecca Black

I guess there are worst lists to top in the world, but I think she topped it for all the wrong reasons. Up until posting time I remained strong and refused to watch this video and I immediately regret watching it. This is the best example that people will watch anything. It’s absolutely ridiculous that this song made her the Most Searched on Google for 2011. I think it was best said during the movie Billy Madison:

Mr. Madison, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

There’s your list of the Most Searched thing on Google for 2011. Most of them are within reason for making the Top List, but Rebecca Black still gets me. I guess that’s why she made the list, everyone had to hear just how bad it was. That song might have been the worst song I’ve ever heard (and I have listened to ‘Take Care’) in my entire life, if I never hear it again it will be too soon.
