A member of Lil Wayne’s Young Money record label has been jailed for carrying a loaded gun. Cory Gunz, who appeared on Wayne’s “6 Foot 7 Foot,” was arrested over the weekend on criminal possession of a firearm in the second degree. Police discovered the unregistered .9mm handgun in his backpack.
Gunz was searched after witnesses in the Bronx identified him taking part in a fight, Gunz was getting out of a cab when police stopped him. Police also found a face mask in his backpack along with the gun.
Cory’s father, legendary rapper Peter Gunz, told MTV News:
It was definitely an illegal search. He just got out of a cab and police ran up on him and they were in plainclothes. He didn’t know they were cops, he thought he was getting robbed.
Gunz is upset with himself over the arrest, tweeting: “I apologize to all of my Supporters, Friends and Family. Things Happen, No excuses. My only regret is letting ya’ll down… Peace.”
As far as my opinion goes, I’m not a huge fan of the Young Money Crew, so I’m not going to go too deep into this. It’s just awfully strange that he got busted for an unregistered gun and also had a face mask with him. Like what’s the main reason anyone would have that? Rob a bank?
If Gunz is convicted, he faces a minimum of three years in prison.
