Shaquille O’Neal has more to say about Dwight Howard, this time something Magic fans might actually want to hear. O’Neal, speaking on a Turner Sports conference call, said that if Dwight Howard leaves Orlando, it would be a “travesty.”
From the Wall Street Journal via the Associated Press:
Shaquille O’Neal says it would be a “travesty” if Dwight Howard leaves the Orlando Magic.
O’Neal also says Howard’s situation is not like his was when he left for the Lakers in 1996, because he says he wanted to stay with the Magic but had a better option.
With Howard, O’Neal says that there may be an “underlying problem” that makes the All-Star center reluctant to sign a contract extension there.
But O’Neal, speaking Tuesday on a Turner Sports conference call, says the All-Star game in Orlando will still be a great event even with Howard’s desire to be traded looming over the weekend.
I’m assuming Shaq is saying it would be a travesty for the Magic franchise, the city of Orlando, and fans of the Magic if Howard leaves. You might remember about a month ago Shaq said that Andrew Bynum, not Howard, is the league’s best big man. Howard outperformed both Bynum and Pau Gasol during the only meeting between the two. So it’s obvious Shaq had the right idea.
