There are multiple reports out of Miami stating that Amar’e Stoudemire punched a fire extinguisher in the locker room area following the Knicks’ 104-94 loss to the Heat. Paramedics were seen rushing into the locker room to treat Stoudemire, who lacerated his hand on the fire extinguisher glass.
Tom Haberstroh, an ESPN Insider, was one of the first to report the injury to Stoudemire, via Twitter. The severity of the injury is not yet known, although one can take a wild guess that a lacerated hand can be a serious injury.
It’s obvious losing any game, let alone a playoff game, can be frustrating. However, you can’t harm your team, and yourself, by doing something like this.
The jokes are already rolling in on Twitter:
@AlexKennedyNBA: Landry Fields tried to punch the same fire extinguisher, but missed.
@PTI: To his credit, Amare was attacking the glass.
[UPDATE Monday 10:53 p.m.]
Marc Spears of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Stoudemire is leaving to New York with the team and his left arm is in a sling, he cut his left hand. Spears said that Knicks guard JR Smith believes Stoudemire received stitches, but the number of stitches in not known. His status hasn’t been updated for Game 3.
