The rematch between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley that everyone was expecting to take place in November might not be taking place just yet, if promoter Bob Arum has his way. We already know how UFC President Dana White, feels about the decision, find out what Arum had to say
Arum, who represents both Pac-Man and Bradley, has put all talk about a rematch on hold and is calling for an investiagtion in the scoring of the fight. All three judges scored the fight 115-113 with two scoring in favor for Bradley and one for Pacquiao. Arum said the following, “I want to investigate whether there was any undue influence, whether the (Nevada Athletic Commission) gave any particular instruction and how they came to this conclusion.”
One of the judges, Duane Ford, who voted in favor of Bradley had the following to say to Yahoo! Sports:
If this were American Idol, without a doubt, Manny Pacquiao would have won, but it was not. I gave an honest opinion. I had Pacquiao up 4-2, I think, at the end of six rounds. I thought he hurt Bradley a couple of times early in the fight. But when the bell rang to end that round, it was over and what happens in one round doesn’t carry over to the next round. They’re separate units. In the second half of the fight, Pacquiao picked off a lot of punches to the head, but Bradley landed some hard body shots. That hurt Pacquiao. I don’t mean it hurt him in the sense of it physically hurting him, but in terms of scoring and piling up points. Bradley did an excellent job standing his ground as a boxer. Remember, it’s a boxing match and Bradley demonstrated his ability to box expertly.
That first part of his quote seems kind of arrogant to me, especially considering that it’s not just fans who are against the decision, but many analysts, and even Arum, obviously, who are calling out against the decision that was rendered. So for him to make the American Idol, comparasion is pretty condescending in my opinion. Either way, one Mr. Mayweather has got to be the happiest inmate on the planet at this moment, and I’m sure he will be doing A LOT of trash talking when he is released from jail in a few months.
