Amar’e Stoudemire Allegedly Sends Out Gay Slur on Twitter

The power of Twitter has allowed fans to interact with athletes, celebrities, actors, etc. in unprecedented ways — so what happens when you send your favorite player a tweet calling him out? Well if you send it to Amar’e Stoudemire, you will find a gay slur in your inbox. The Twitter user, @BFerrelli, originally sent this tweet to Stoudemire:

By 4:28 p.m. Amar’e had already responded with the following tweet(s):

The user, as expected, received a bunch of replies — both good and bad. Most people couldn’t believe Amar’e would say such things, and then some people were giving the user flak for looking for the attention. He sent the tweet to various big name sports reporters and also did a couple of interviews.

But it looks like the two have cleared the air:

So there you have it, don’t tweet Amar’e and call him out. Tweet him only nice things, unless you want a gay slur in your inbox. Amar’e is extremely lucky the twitter user isn’t gay — it would seem that way, anyway — because he could have easily screwed Amar’e (no pun intended).

On the other hand, Amar’e has to know by now that he must compose himself better than that.

Update #1 Tuesday 5:52 p.m.

Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld tweeted that the NBA has fined Stoudemire $50,000 for “using offensive and derogatory language in a Twitter message.”
