Say what you will about, the BET Hip Hop Awards, but the Chris Lighty tribute was very well done. It started with LL Cool J talking about his contributions to the music industry even though he wasn’t an artist. The theme of the performances were songs that wouldn’t have been possible without his influence, which led to performances by A Tribe Called Quest, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, and Fat Joe. It was definitely cool to see Joe and 50 put their differences aside to pay tribute to someone who influenced both of their careers.
A little under two weeks from the eleven year anniversary of her death in an airplane accident plans are being made for a new Aaliyah album, and two people of the people who played an integral part in her rise to the top, Timbaland and Missy Elliott, have been confirmed to NOT be a part of it.
Since I don’t know much about her, I can’t file this under the, I’m not sure if anybody cares, category. After hinting that rapper 2 Chainz was signed to the G.O.O.D. Music label, it was announced yesterday that Teyana Taylor has also joined the roster as welll.
The video to one of my favorite songs off of Cole World has been posted. According to the YouTube video page, J. Cole’s “Nobody’s Perfect” (Feat. Missy Elliott) was posted on Wednesday.
It’s absolutely insane that it’s already been 10 years since Aaliyah passed, and it brings back so many memories. The day after she passed I started at a new store working for Alberson’s, and the day after that was my first day of college. I wanted to do something more than the typical Throwback Thursday to celebrate her memory, so I decided to combine it with my Throwback Thursday with the Thoughts of a Jeanius Top 5: Aaliyah songs.
